David, Santa Croce, Ferragamo

Blog 2/18

Today was our second day of classes. We walked to school in the beautiful weather. Afterwards, we had free time to go shopping and get ourselves lunch. Then everyone met up and we went to see the statue of David at l'Academia. The statue is 16 and a half feet tall, weighs 5.5 tons, and took Michelangelo 3 years to create. The tour guide then took us to Santa Croce, the cathedral where Michelangelo and Galileo lay in their tombs. The last stop was the Salvatore Ferragamo shoe museum where we learned about Salvator and the way he made his shoes. I learned that his shoes are comfortable because he understood the need for support in the arch of your foot and made his shoes with extra support in the arch. Lastly, we had a nice dinner and got delicious gelato on the way back to our hotel. It was a great day.
